Building in the Dolomites

Meadows and ski slopes extend over the foot of the mountain range, thick forests welcome explorers and jagged peaks soar skywards. There is hardly anything to indicate that this landscape conceals numerous mountain and valley stations for ski lifts and cable cars. Because, as always, when it comes to architecture the Carezza hiking and skiing area has nature as its main priority.

The eye can continue to enjoy the unspoilt Dolomite landscape, yet the level of comfort is maintained.

Ski lifts and cable cars form part of a skiing and hiking area -

they sometimes even distinguish it. However, they would be only half as beneficial were they to spoil the legendary landscape below the Rosengarten massif. That is why Carezza has for some years now placed a special emphasis on ensuring that the lift systems are as far as possible in harmony with nature. The mountain and valley stations of the new Cabrio lift in Tiers and the “King Laurin” cable car are almost entirely hidden from view, because they were literally built into the natural surroundings – underground. Architect Werner Tscholl ensured that the eye can continue to enjoy the unspoilt Dolomite landscape, yet the level of comfort is maintained. Externally, only the entrances and exits for vehicles and passengers reveal that a technical facility is located within the rock of the Dolomites.
